AP:
Rudy Giuliani said Sunday he will consider running for governor of New York and isn't ruling out a second attempt at the U.S. presidency.

...

"I don't know if I'd be interested in it, but I'll think about it when the right time comes along," Giuliani said.

Current New York Governor David Paterson said last month he will run in 2010 for a full term in office. He assumed office after his predecessor Eliot Spitzer resigned earlier this year amid a prostitution scandal.

On whether he'd serve with Obama - Rudy ducked:

"You never answer questions like that hypothetically," Giuliani said. "Very few people ever turn the president down, but that's an unrealistic situation."

That would be shocking. I'm sure there is, somewhere, a very short list of Republicans that Obama would be willing to appoint as the token Republican in the cabinet. The fiery and ambitious former NYC Mayor is unlikely to be one of them.

But on the governorship, that should be an easy get for Rudy. I'd rather see him run for Senator to either knock out Schumer or possibly Hillary's open seat (assuming she is nominated for SOS). Current governor Patterson is there because of a Spitzer scandal and has not run a statewide campaign in his own name. But that leaves Pataki or Bloomberg as the two likely high profile recruitment targets for the New York Senate.

The big issue in Albany will be the imploding NYC financial services industry which will have a huge disproportionate effect on the State (and city) budget. Couple this with a general recession and It's not going to be an easy state to govern for the next couple of years.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
