Ted Stevens Going Down in Defeat, Disgrace

Math superstar Nate Silver has been looking over the latest numbers from up north and has now called the Alaska Senate race in Democratic challenger Mark Begich's favor:

With 14,626 of the roughly 24,000 ballots left to count today, Beigich's lead over Republican Ted Stevens is now 2,374. The remaining results are expected to arrive later this afternoon. Stevens would have to win by a margin of ov over 25% of the outstanding ballots to tie Begich.

And that, says Silver, ain't gonna happen. It has been a rocky political end for Stevens, the GOP's longest-serving senator. First he became synonymous with the "Bridge to Nowhere", then, in October, he was convicted of seven felony counts, and now he seems poised for electoral defeat. I guess the silver lining in all of this, as far as Stevens is concerned, is that now he'll be spared the humiliation of winning only to be expelled from Congress by his fellow senators.
