Rob Kall is not going to be happyBut, I fear, will Emanuel open the gates for a herd of Clinton vets to invade the White House? That would be a betrayal of the millions of voters, who in the primary, made a very clear non-Clinton choice. We need fresh blood, not Clinton people who were involved in supporting and defending NAFTA, the WTO and Clinton's effort to move the Democratic party to the right.
Come on, President-elect Obama. Sure, it makes sense to start with a few experienced hands. But we hired you to make change happen, not to recycle.
Rahm Emmanuel, Eric Holder, Tom Daschle, and possibly Hillary Clinton herself. former Clinton administration staffers and a former senator. It's not exactly change, but it's exactly what everyone should have expected from Obama by now.
First, Obama needs some experienced hands who know how the White House is run - That's Rahm. Then he needs to pay off some supporters - That's Holder and Daschle and many more to come. Then he needs to offer some sops to rivals who have the potential of being a pain in the you-know-where. That's Hillary Clinton and likely a few more.
There's a long list of these types of people before we get to fresh faces and new talent. But what did you expect? Change? A new day in DC? Please tell me you didn't actually
believe that! That was the campaign, this is the real stuff. This also means that Joe Lieberman gets a pass. He'll be less of a pain if he owes Obama than if he owes the GOP, and that's why they did it, and the leftroots can go pound sand.
Welcome to DC.
