Barack Obama's Birthday Surprise For Joe Biden

Today is Joe Biden's birthday! To celebrate Joe's transition from retirement age to retirement age plus one, Barack Obama showed his appreciation. From the transition Press Office:
Today is Vice President-elect Joe Biden's 66th birthday. President-elect Barack Obama surprised him yesterday with cupcakes after their weekly lunch. Then, the President-elect led the staff in singing him happy birthday and gave him a Chicago White Sox hat, a Chicago Bears hat and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn as gifts.

Vice President-elect Biden will spend his birthday in Delaware and has no public events scheduled. President-elect Obama will hold private meetings in Chicago, no public events are scheduled.

Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel will hold meetings on the Hill with House and Senate Republican leaders to discuss how to best work together and ensure they know that the White House will be open at all times for them.
I've got just one thing to say: Cupcakes? Cup-frickin'-cakes? And we wonder where Democrats get that less-than tough image. I love how they say he "surprised" Biden with cupcakes, too, like he just suddenly started whipping them at him.

No, that's not one of the cupcakes, but it would be funny if it was. That's from Comedy Central's election night party.

Then, he gives Biden a couple of hats that he can never, ever wear. I suppose it's the thought that counts. I'm going to get Barack one of those Ronald Reagan-Che Guevera shirts for his birthday.

Amid the birthday cheer, Rahm Emanuel is holding Kum ba yah meetings? This Rahm Emanuel?

Anyway, Happy Birthday, Joe. And many more.
