Franken Making Dubious Ballot Challenges

Al Franken, who wants to count for himself ballots which contain no selection in the Senate race, is conversely, or perhaps perversely, challenging votes which do contain a selection.

The recount has observers from both campaigns on hand, who are able to challenge ballots which they think are unjustly being counted for an opponent. According to The Skepticians blog, the below ballot was challenged by the Franken recount observers on the grounds that the voter made an "X" inside the bubble for Coleman.

Wow. Seriously?

I am reminded of a blog I saw at DailyKos, since deleted, where user oasisjennie bragged about how important he or she was to the country, being a Franken recount observer. The best line was " what I challenge and don't challenge will determine the outcome of this election."

Looking at the above image, you can see what oasisjennie meant. I've said before it appeared a potentially coordinated effort was underway in Minnesota to take the election for Franken. With suspicious late vote updates and thousands of lawyers on the scene, the air of mischief is overt. Now we hear from observers anxious to "determine" the outcome of the election and we see reports of absurd challenges ... the word theft drifts across the tongue.

Oasisjennie, by the way, mentioned Franken personally gave the informational pep talk to the vote recounters. One might deduce the subject was "how to determine the outcome of the election," don't you think?

The Senate race in Minnesota has been fraught with controversy. With the filibuster-proof majority now resting on Franken's race, it seems we'll find out exactly what the Democrats are willing to do to secure it.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
