Remember when Congresswoman Michele Bachmann invoked Joe McCarthy's ghost and suggested Barack Obama was anti-American? Sure you do. It was all over the blogs (including ours) and newspapers and TV. And since she was speaking on MSNBC at the time, her comments were of course recorded and are available for review.

But that isn't stopping Bachmann from denying she ever said it. On Hannity & Colmes the other night Bachmann flashed her winning smile and inexplicably claimed that the whole thing was "an urban legend."

COLMES: Well, of course you're going to - let me ask you very quickly. You've said you were concerned during the campaign that Obama had anti-American views. You said the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they're pro or anti America.

BACHMANN: Actually, that's not what I said at all.

COLMES: Well, I'm just - I'm reading your exact quote.

BACHMANN: Actually that's not [what] I said. It's an urban legend that was created. That isn't what I said at all.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
