Sarah Palin's Back, Stumping for Sen. Saxby Chambliss

Sarah Palin apparently misses the campaign trail.

The Alaska governor is now stumping for Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

John McCain's former running mate will be traveling through Georgia Monday, making four stops in the final day of campaigning for the Dec. 2 Senate runoff.

"I was thrilled when I got the call that Governor Palin would be able to make the trip to Georgia to campaign with me the day before the runoff election," Saxby said in a statement. "Julianne and I are honored that she would take the time to travel to Georgia to tell everyone how important this election is and I know that she will receive an enthusiastic welcome everywhere we go."

Think what you may have her, but she excited a base and made a lot of fans among conservatives while on the trail during the presidential campaign. I guess this is Chambliss trying to pull out all the stops in a race that could determine whether the Democrats get 60 seats this year. The Dems are currently two seats short.

If Democrat Al Franken beats incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman, R, in Minnesota, and Saxby loses, that threshold will be met.

Oh, what the Democrats wouldn't give to reach that magic number and have a supermajority ...

Democrat Jim Martin - who has been getting some help from big names like Al Gore and Hillary Clinton - is trying to unseat Chambliss by perhaps riding in on Barack Obama's coattails of "change."

"It's time for him to go," Gore said of Chambliss during a Georgia fundraiser Sunday night. "The Bush-Cheney-Chambliss philosophy has been tried and has not only found out to be wanting, it has been found out to be a catastrophe."

At one point, the crowd shouted: "Yes we can! Yes we can!" as Gore said, "change is coming! Change is coming to Georgia! Change is coming to America!"

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that some Democrats held on to fleeting hope that Obama himself would make an appearance for a last-minute push for Martin, but there's this little thing called an economic crisis that may keep him from doing so.

Chambliss has had McCain, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney also helping him out.

"We've got to make sure we don't give Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Washington, D.C., a blank check," Giuliani said Tuesday at a press conference in Cobb County, Ga.. "If we give them a blank check, they will sign that check and be taking money out of our pockets."

As of Monday, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina had Chambliss ahead, 52 to 46 percent. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a poll showing Martin within two points of Chambliss, but still trailing, 48 percent to 46 percent.

Let's see if Palin's star power and hockey-mom style gives Chambliss the boost that he needs.
