Barack Obama's newly assembled "Team of Rivals" is about to experience its first real compatibility test. That's because Samantha Power--the brilliant Obama campaign adviser who stepped down after calling Hillary Clinton a "monster" back in the primary election--is
now working on the transition team for the very branch of government to be headed up by none other than Hillary herself.
So, as Clinton will be formally announced as Obama's pick for Secretary of State this coming week, Power is already helping shape that office. It will be interesting to see how these two smart and capable women deal with one another, if at all. Have the hatchets been buried?
We know that Clinton received assurances from Obama that she could bring in her own people to staff the office. Will Power make that list? She could be a very useful player at the State Department, especially when it comes to questions of how to deal with genocide, her specialty.
The key concept in all of this seems to be that of "transition." Indeed, this is an evolving relationship.
