Any talk of a "Legacy" (good or bad) while President Bush is still in office is absurd.

Really?! That did not seem to prevent the Republican from assessing the Clinton Presidency as it was going on! But, I have to say, in all fairness, that there were at least several Republicans who were intellectually honest enough to recognize that Clinton was fiscally responsible.

Bush protected us since 9/11.Obama will talk with terrorists and rogue nations without preconditions.Now is the time for Obama to go to Kashmir and talk with the terrorists. During his second term Sudan offered to give up Bin Ladin but Clinton refused.Clinton had SPECIAL FORCES SNIPER READY TO KILL BIN LADIN BUT CLINTON CALLED OFF THE ATTACK BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE CIVILIAN CASUALTIES.In 1998 when 2 US embassies in Africa were bombed by Al-Qaeda Clinton instead of invading Afghanistan jiuust launched symbolic missile strikes on a building owned by Bin Ladin in Sudan and the Training camp of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

In 25 to 50 years it will still be the same assesment: unprepared. For eight years, we have been moving from one debacle to another with an almost "Joe six pack" abandon. The only difference time will give is that future generations will find great humor in our absolute brain fart as we passed from the second to third millenia.

I guess the fannie mae/freddie mac problems that were warned about by the republicans in congress and fell on deaf ears in the democrat side of the house is President Bush's fault too. August 6th's letter is a great indicator of Monday Morning quarterbacking. If you can show ANYWHERE that an attack was being planned using our OWN airplanes to fly into buildings, then you have something. This attack was in planning for almost 2 YEARS.....yet President Clinton walks away without any baggage? I would never think of blaming Clinton for something that was surely planned while he was in office, even though at least twice he was offered Bin Laden and he refused. Blaming President Bush for something that could not be stopped BECAUSE no one knew exactly what was going to happen is absurd. But, since the attacks, there have been "spying", "wiretapping", "torture" etc. I'm sure the author has bitched about that for the last 7 years; but no attacks either. What would the author say about these methods if they were implemented BEFORE 9/11, AND they prevented the attacks? Would they have worked? How do we know? See, we all can Monday Morning quarterback.

Your argument only affirms that WE KNEW of the threat for the 9 months before the WTC fell. Why didn't Bush fix the problem? Why didn't he even address it?
People are already blaming Obama and he hasn't even taken office, yet Bush gets an eight year free pass? Come on! You cite all these places overseas during the Clinton administration, but fail to mention the more than 4,000 troops killed, American owned goods and property damaged, the more than a quarter million families separated from on another, and the more than two trillion dollar price tag. WHY SHOULD THEY STRIKE US HERE WHEN BUSH PUT US THERE IN PLAIN SIGHT FOR THEM TO ATTACK AT WILL?

Come on! Be serious! Your line of reasoning hurts Bush's legacy more than it helps. You assure posterity that Bush will be known as the "the buck stops anywhere but here" president.

You're good! You have the ability predict what will come from US involvement in Iraq. Most of us mere mortals don't posess that quality.

Some seem to forget the first six years of the Bush administration were really quite good. Employment was at record highs, interest rates were at record lows and more people owned homes than ever in our history! But, there was a sneaky little detail waiting to burst the home ownership bubble. Oh, and did I mention we were safe because, after 9-11, we took the war to the enemy rather than waiting for them to attack us here, again?

Then, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac came undone. After years of providing loans to people who were unqualified to own anything, the scheme that Barack Obama defended, collapsed. Thank Franklin Raines, Jim Johnson, Barney Frank, and a large number of lock-step liberals for that mess.

And, as I recall, Democrats beat the drum to stop picking on our enemies and Americans tired of the blood and treasure America was spending to keep us safe. The US House and Senate were turned over to the Democrats in 2006.

If smart was the mark of a great leader, Jimmy Carter would be regarded as one of the best! He was 59th in his class of 830 at the Naval Academy. He has a degree in Physics. He was selected to participate in the early Nuclear Submarine program under Admiral Rickover. He was elected to the Georgia State Senate and he was elected Georgia Governor. In the 1976 election, post-Watergate, he was elected President

Carter is a smart guy and he was arguably the worst President in modern times. Under Carter the nation suffered double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, oil shortages, “stagflation”, high unemployment and The Iran Hostage Crisis. In 1980, after only one term, Ronald Reagan beat Carter with a landslide 91% of electoral votes (489-49)!

I remember when Truman left office. He was the butt of many jokes. Today, the rational world has a different view.

Bush unprepared? True.

Obama unprepared? True.

Fortunately, the folks Obama has begun to surround himself with are intelligent adults, unafraid of speaking truth to power.

WAIT TILL THE CHOSEN ONE OBAMA SERVES 4 YEARS. WE'LL BE BEGGING FOR BUSH.

any moron can see Iraq was a mistake. We took the war to them? Lets see . . . two attacks on American soil . . . 1993 (a van filled with low tech explosives blows up taking out a kitchen, POT central dispatch, a piece of sidewalk, kills six). . . and 2001 (four planes get hijacked, fly halfway down the eastern seaboard, hit two towers and THE PENTAGON, the fourth taken down by the passengers, killing 3000+, costing us billions in damage). Do the math . . . 8 years! Bush has not kept us safe. He has only fallen for the sucker punch. . . bankrupted us. Bin Laden wins! Not bad for a half mil investment. Make a big bang and watch "joe six pack" go broke trying to nuke em all.

Maybe if we weren't spending the last six years focused on a little pissant dictator of an oversized sandbox who had not one thing to do with 9/11, we might have fixed our problems here before the housing bubble burst. Posterity will show some people making a killing off our economy, taking the money, running, and leaving desolation in their wake.

I like to refer to them as financial locust . . . the same sort who gave us ENRON . . . moving from one ripe financial field to another, driving up prices then cutting and running just before it crashes, leaving legitimate people to hold the bag. I think when the dust settles, you'll see they were behind OIL futures and the stock market too.
