Tomorrow's Senate run-off election in Georgia presents Sarah Palin with the opportunity to settle an old score. Not only can she partially avenge the thumping that she and the rest of the GOP took at the hands of the Obama-Biden Democrats, she can also redeem her unsuccessful bid to become 1984's Miss Alaska. From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Martin spokesman Matt Canter also said Democrat (Jim Martin) will have "Georgia's own Miss Alaska" on hand to sing the national anthem at a 5:30 p.m. rally at the Capitol.

Atlanta-based recording artist Maryline Blackburn won the 1984 Miss Alaska pageant - the one where Palin finished as a runner-up.
So, really, we have the makings of an epic, Mordor-style battle here. Tomorrow's run-off is more than just a way to pick a US Senator. It is a reckoning on all counts: Democrat vs. Republican, Miss Alaska vs. Not Quite Miss Alaska, Ludacris vs. John McCain, Guys With Normal Names vs. Guys With Funny-Sounding Names. (Oops!)

To Palin's credit, by the way, she was reportedly gracious in defeat back in '84. Can you imagine her writing a note like this to Barack Obama and Joe Biden?
"I do love you. You're more admired than even you know. And please keep God Number One. He's got great things for you, baby. Love, Sarah Heath."
God Number Two could not be reached for comment.
