From the AJC:

The Palin rally in Augusta drew a crowd of 3,000 to 4,000 people, many holding aloft campaign signs and shouting their adoration of the GOP vice presidential candidate.

...

It was Palin's first campaign stop since she and U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) lost the Nov. 4 election to President-elect Barack Obama. The McCain-Palin ticket, however, carried Georgia by about 200,000 votes, and Chambliss brought Palin to the state in a last-minute effort to push conservative voters to the polls for Tuesday's runoff.

For fun let's compare that to the other 2012 hopeful campaigning in Georgia

The 300 or so supporters at the event chanted "Saxby! Saxby! Saxby!" as Chambliss came to the podium with Romney. Many held aloft cell phones to snap photos.

Poor Mitt Romney, that's a Joe Biden-size crowd! And it pretty just much sums him up. Decent resume, loads of money, but absolutely no juice. Perhaps if he hadn't spent most of the nineties assuring the people of Massachusetts that he was a "good" (liberal) Republican. But he has four years to make up for it. I know my impression of him has room to move a lot higher. Ideal scenario: He moves to Michigan and knocks out Debbie Stabenow for the MI senate seat in 2010. Recruitment is going to be big in 2010.
