Today in Georgia the stakes could not be higher as Republican Saxby Chambliss (who incidentally was named after one of the Bond girls in 'Thunderball') and Democrat Jim Martin scramble for support on their last campaign day before Tuesday's runoff election for the state's coveted Senate seat.
Both campaigns, as you would expect, are seriously breaking out
the big guns.Sen. Chambliss will be joined by Alaska Governor
Sarah Palin at four campaign rallies, not to mention private fundraisers at Midtown Atlanta's W Hotel.
Not to be outdone, Jim Martin is hosting a rally at the state Capitol with veteran civil rights leaders and hip-hop celeb/'Crash" star Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges. And hey, with
Hank Williams Jr. running for Senate and
Val Kilmer considering the governorship of New Mexico, why not?
Georgia is one of two remaining undecided Senate contests--the other being Minnesota--and supporters of both sides are working furiously to get out the vote. According to the
Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in spite of the fact that Sen. Chambliss beat Martin by more than 100,000 votes in the Nov. 4 election, "voter turnout drops precipitously for most runoffs and both camps say they place little faith in the accuracy of runoff polls."
