Here's Campbell Brown "Cutting Through the Bull" as is her new directive at CNN. At issue is whether Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell was being sexist when he said Janet Napolitano would be perfect for the Homeland Security cabinet post because she had no kids, and, by way of inference, no life. Watch:
Do you agree with Brown on this one, or has the public scolding routine gone too far?
Were Rendell's comments sexist? Probably - but Campbell Brown is correct in saying that single women are also likely to be taken advantage of by bosses; working extra hours, taking on tasks no one else wants. That can go ditto for single men as well. Don't you think Bush may have at least considered the fact that Condoleeza Rice had no children or husband when he gave her two high level positions in his cabinet? Or Janet Reno with Bill Clinton? Part of this is how we are socialized in society, but let's be honest - the burden of child care falls almost exclusively on mothers, fairly or unfairly.

How can Ed Rendell be considered sexist when his candidate-of-choice was Hillary Clinton?

Ed Rendell is wrong, but not because Janet Napolitano has no family, but because as Governor of Arizona, Napolitano has done nothing to secure the border with Mexico, except to complain about the Bush Administration.
In fact, she and (Democrat) Phoenix, Arizona Mayor, Phil Gordon fought every effort by Maricopa County Attorney (Republican) Andrew Thomas and (Republican) Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, to catch and deport illegal aliens. And now, she allegedly asked Obama appointee Eric Holder to investigate Arpaio.
As a Phoenix resident, I appreciate Sheriff Arpaio’s efforts to uphold existing law. Most important, the enforcement effort is working! School enrollment for the children of illegal aliens is down, as is Emergency Room treatment for uninsured illegals. With no work and increased likelihood of being caught and deported, illegal entry into Arizona has fallen dramatically!
Napalitano’s claim to fame is her campaign support for Obama, and her reward is to become the top officer responsible to keep America safe? What a stunning collection of retread hacks!

As a single, professional female, I support and understand Campbell's remarks. Under no circumstance, would anything even close be said about a male (married or single) in a similar situation.

Did Campbell Brown defend Sarah Palin when she was criticized for neglecting her family to run for office? Just asking.

CNN, MSNBC, FOX, are all becoming irrevelent -- same old blather from all -- "Oh, Oh! I've got my panties in a bunch because somebody worded something that I can take offense to." We're turning into a Country of wimps and malcontents.

CAMPBELL BROWN GOT HER ASS RAN OFF AT NBC BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO MAKE NEWS INSTEAD OF REPORTING IT. YOU NEVER KNOW FROM DAY TO DAY WHAT SIDE OF ANY STORY SHE'S GOING TO BE ON. IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE CNN RUNS HER ASS OFF ALSO.

"By way of inference, no life!" Isn't that like putting words in Ed's mouth? Cambell Brown is just a royal pain in the ass who wants attention. If Napolitano has no kids, then that leaves her with time on her hands. What's so sexist about that? And, I agree with whomever said Napolitano's only claim to fame was campaigning for 'that one' Of all the people who Cambell could have attacked on sexism, it sure shouldn't be Rendell who campaigned his heart out for Hillay.

David S. is on the mark. Rendell is nothing if not realistic and blunt. Ms. Brown takes that as sexist in this case, and I sincerely believe Rendell did not mean it like that at all.
Rendell has his faults but this is a mountain being made of a molehill.
