From their
press release:
Washington, DC-A new Wilson Research Strategies poll of 2008 presidential election voters on behalf of documentary filmmaker John Ziegler shows startling differences in political and issue awareness. The survey, a follow-up study to an earlier controversial poll conducted by Zogby International of Obama voters, finds that McCain voters were generally more politically aware of issues and events surrounding the presidential race than voters who supported Barack Obama. The poll also found a direct correlation between media consumption, issue knowledge and voter preference.
The study concludes, in a nutshell, that McCain voters are better-informed than Obama voters, and that you should get all of your news from Rush Limbaugh or Fox News.
The poll accomplishes this by quizzing a representative sample of voters on their ability to correctly answer 13 questions, then asks who they voted for and where they get their news.
Based on this study, it appears that America has made a huge mistake, allowing ill-informed dummies to elect a sham of a President.
So, what kinds of questions did they ask? Were they about universal healthcare vs. a market-based approach? Or how about energy policy?
No, these 13 questions were about issues like Obama's 57 states "gaffe," and Sarah Palin's wardrobe. Many of the questions themselves are inaccurate, or are matters of interpretation that are all slanted toward the right. For example, the survey asks which candidate won his first election by getting all of his opponents kicked off the ballot. Does Barack Obama have some magical Tantalus field, with which he can simply make his rivals disappear?
Another question asks which candidate said that their policies would bankrupt any company that built a coal burning power plant, and would make energy costs skyrocket. I guess that's one way of putting it. Another would be to say that his policies would encourage the use of clean coal technology. Doesn't everybody want that?
The poll uses, as its "control question," this question: Before this past election, which party controlled both houses of Congress?
This is the question, I'm sure, that Ziegler wants to be able to point to and say, "This is irrefutable, objectively measurable proof..." of whatever. Except even this question has more than one correct answer. Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman are both independents.
It's hard to blame Ziegler, just as it's hard to blame him for
touting an unscientific AOL poll on his website, because he just wants to get publicity and support for his film, "Media Malpractice...How Obama Got Elected." When you've already arrived at your conclusion, it doesn't really matter how far apart the dots that you've connected are.
