    Update: Obama Snubbing Fox News?

    Posted:
    12/3/08
Wednesday: Fox News' long winter is over. In the sixth press conference since election day, President-elect Obama has finally called on a Fox reporter. Politico breaks this explosive story wide open:
Veteran White House correspondent Wendell Goler asked the third (and final) question during Obama's press conference to nominate Bill Richardson for Commerce Secretary, the fifth presser in the past nine days.
And the question Goler asked? "How has the election affected your ability to pal around with terrorists and when was the last time you beat your wife?"

Just kidding! But, really, is it that far off?

Monday: Since his victory, the president-elect has held five news conferences (isn't that about how many Bush has held in eight years?) and Obama hasn't once answered a question from a Fox News reporter. Yes, Fishbowl DC is actually keeping track of this stuff:

Today was another. Questions instead went to such outlets as ABC, New York Times, CBS, Reuters and the Associated Press.

It's a little early to tell whether this is an intentional brush off by Obama. If the trend continues through a few more pressers I'll start to believe it. But I hope it's not the case. Crooks and Liars thinks it's great that Obama is (allegedly) sticking it to Fox but I don't.

Sure Fox is odious and hateful and the originator of BS like the "terrorist fist bump" meme, but I still don't like the idea of a president playing favorites in a press conference. I dunno, call me an idealist. It was unseemly and petty when Bush disrespected Helen Thomas and I'd like to hold Obama to the same standard. The network is despicable from a journalistic standpoint, but really how tough can its reporters' questions really be? I'd rather see Obama, with all his unflappability, just answer rather than ignore.
