Face Off! Can Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton Get Along?

Two words: Jefferson Adams.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had differences that FAR EXCEEDED any differences Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ever had.

The election of 1800 remains one of the UGLIEST mudslinging contest in HISTORY, with scandal rags from both the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans, the Adams camp accusing Jefferson of being an atheist and Jefferson camp accusing Adams of being a monarchist and mocking him as "His Rotundity," Adams even passing the Alien and Sedition acts to try to make slanderous press illegal and arresting James Calendar and others for their slanders against Adams. (Calendar would later attack Jefferson by exposing his affair with Sally Hemings.)

In the end... Adams and Jefferson developed what may have arguably been the warmest friendship ever held between two former Presidents.

If you think Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had differences... their differences were NOTHING compared to Adams and Jefferson's. Politically and ideologically, they were opposed on everything. Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican. Adams was a Federalist. Politically... Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama agree on almost every issue, and their campaigns against each other were tame in comparison with other campaigns, including the one of 1800.

If you think they cannot reconcile... look at Adams and Jefferson, each who avowed an undying affection for the other, a deep friendship across the miles, and reportedly, Adams' last words on his deathbed were, "Jefferson still survives."

Sounds like you read McCullough's book, John Adams. A great read and your point is well taken. If you didn't read the book, do yourself a favor and do so--it is excellent.

come on...there is no problem in the Democratic house...look at the losers if you want to see divisions...
