Barbra Streisand got an awkward kiss on the cheek from the president, and yes, she gave him a smooch back.
Streisand, a vocal critic of President George W. Bush, was a guest at the White House just before one of Washington's few A-list events: the Kennedy Center Honors.
But the Bush/Babs kisses, were they not the biggest story of all for a nation so desperately in need of political healing? Well, if but for a night, Barbara's lips graced the actual skin upon her nemesis' cheeks, not some Hollywood actor's (and Streisand step-son) approximation of that skin.
In other news, GM may well go out of business, India and Pakistan edge closer to war, and the US is worried about Kabul falling to the Taliban. But those kisses, oh, those sweet, awkward kisses! Do they not, if but for a fleeting moment, help take the edge off of our otherwise edgy world?
In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around.
