According to Fox News Chicago, Rahm Emanuel had multiple meetings with Gov. Blagojevich, during which Emanuel reportedly offered a list of names of candidates who would be "acceptable" to President-elect Obama. These conversations would have taken place after FBI surveillance was in place, meaning they'd be on tape. Obama has stated that he was confident no one on his staff was involved in any of the Governor's underhanded dealings; the transition team has made every effort to distance themselves from Blagojevich. The Fox report cites a confidential source that identifies Emanuel by name as having multiple conversations with both Blagojevich and his chief of staff.
One sensational interpretation of this information is that Emanuel was working with the Feds to nail the corrupt governor. Another equally sensational interpretation is that Emanuel was indeed involved and complicit in the scandal. Emanuel refused to answer questions earlier today about whether he was the unnamed Obama advisor referred to in taped Blagojevich conversations, a fact which could support either theory.
Reporter Wall says that multiple requests for comment were ignored by the Obama transition team.
