The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Patti Blagojevich, wife of former future Vice Presidential candidate Rod Blagojevich, has sent notes of apology to her neighbors: (abridged) My husband and I would like to apologize to you and your family for the media barrage that descended on our neighborhood. While we signed up for this kind of attention by choosing a life in public service, you didn't. All you did was choose to live in our wonderful neighborhood.The Political Machine has obtained an early draft of the note, which contained this later-excised postscript:
We are very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you. We hope it will soon subside, not only for the sake of our children but also for you and your family.
P.S. Despite what may or may not have been said at our last dinner party, it is very unlikely that Rod could have you all fired from your individual jobs, nor is it likely that he would do so, were he able. Merry Christmas.I also love how the note blames the media frenzy on their "life in public service," as if the state comptroller is being chased by paparazzi.

Initially, I wondered what Blagojevich did that started this investigation. Illiois has been mired in corruption for years so what's different now. My first thoughts were that either somebody more corrupt than Blagojevich wanted him booted, or that he really pissed the wrong people off. My first inclination was that this must have something to do with the Wrigley Field deal. Then I heard that the Illinois Attorney General's office has been looking into impeaching Blagojevich for a year. Better be standing upwind when this one hits the fan, because Blagojevich doesn't seem like the type to go silently into the night.

The one question which I would like for someone to answer concerning this pay-to-play scheme is whether there is any evidence that anyone had actually been contacted and agreed to pay to play. May main concern is whether the Governor had this in motion or was he just shooting off at the mouth with a lots of crap as fools sometime do.

Bettye, I think there's clear evidence that people were "contacted." If none agreed, it could be because they're more honest and/or smarter than Blago, and turned him down; or it could be just because Fitzgerald arrested him before it could get to that point. In either case, I think even "just shooting off at the mouth" could qualify as soliciting bribes, which is evidently sufficient to indict and/or impeach him even if no one took him up on it.

This is Chicago politics! Patty Blago's dad is a politician. He got his son-in-law in.
Blago's mistake was flapping his big mouth while being wiretapped. He knew he was being investgated and still flapped his big mouth!
Patty is a realtor, made $700K last year, mostly she handled real estate deals for the state of IL--just a litte conflict of interest! Also, the first lady pottymouth handled all or most of Tony Rezko's real estate deals. So, my guess is there's a good chance she was the Obama's real estate agent.
If this investigation proceeds a few layers deeper, we will see just how much Obama knew and what pay for play activities he was involved with.

Selling the senate seat is one small fraction of the problem in IL. The bigger problem is the ongoing graf, kickbacks, contracts to shady contractors, people on the dole who do nothing. The tax payer money that is wasted is criminal.
When Obama was in the state senate, he had an opportunity to change the culture of corrption in Chicago. He didn't.

According to Pat Buchanan this evening, he doesn't think the tapes released on blago show evidence of criminality. He was on goofball and arguing with matthews.
It will be interesting if this turns out to be the case. It depends on what's being sandbagged.

My personal favorite example of embellishment of one's size is "Red October" (long, hard & full of seamen). If you knew me, you'd realize that there are very few, if any, lines TO cross. LOL.
