I copied the following from David Knowles' article's comments - I think Somber gets it more than Rush and his dittoheads ever will. I would check classical constitutionalist and fiscal conservative myself, neither of which the GOP has been recently.

The GOP is a hydra with seven heads.

The first head are your classical constitutionalists who say that if it's not in the constitution then the federal government has no right to take action outside the consitution. See libertarianism and Ron Paul for details.

The second head are the neo-cons, who still believe that American can benefit by aggressively expanding markets and using military force to instil an atmosphere of fear abroad.

The third head are the free market true believers who believe that if they just deregulated everything and removed unions and binding work contracts that everything would be sunshine and bunnies, where people who work get what they want and people who don't can go starve somewhere.

The fourth head are the 'fiscal conservatives' who really want to be fiscally conservative, cut back on spending, reduce the size of government, and end wasteful practices that aren't needed.

The fifth head is the racist one, that puts white anglosaxons above all others in the certainty that whites are the best thing for America and all minorities are contaminates in their perfect plan.

The sixth head is the sexist head, certain that men should be the breadwinners and women the child rearers and roars in outrage at any policy, plan, or law that expands the rights of women to control their own biology, finaces, or political future.

The seventh head is the pious head that is certain if they just put the bible in place of the bill of rights then jebus christy will come down and magically fix all our problems and woes because we will once again be a god righteous land.

If the GOP is going to survive, pick two.

I am an Independent and listen to both sides, having listened to Rush, I can say without a doubt that (many times) he distorts the truth beyond recognition. His place in history will be in the Gas Bag Hall of Fame.

He is a Republican mouth piece and as such, if he was concerned with their reputability should promote their agenda in a honest way.

Rush's response to Powells statment is typical of his bullyish persona, which is, if you do not agree with him, the agrument is reduced to name calling. Name calling is way too prevalent on many blogs, it has no substance, and lacks intellect. Rush is the biggest promoter of this form of debate.

Heres some of Limbaughs responses which validate Powells remark.

Limbaugh called Powell's thinking "incoherent" and accused him of being a "turncoat" for supporting Obama

Powell is seeking to be "loved and adored by the media."

Powell's not a Republican. McCain's not a Republican. These guys are not even mavericks. They are Washingtonians.

That's the name of the game and they want press adulation. They want to be loved and adored by the media, they want fawning treatment, they want to be thought of as something special, unique, dignified and so forth, and that's the Washington establishment. These guys are Washingtonians.

And when I said it was largely about race (referring to Powells endorsement of Obama) , that's what set 'em all off, you're not supposed to say these kinds of things. This is supposed to go unspoken.



If this was to be an actual intellectual debate, Rush would have said give me specfic examples of appealing to the lesser instincts, but instead he just responded once again with his lesser instincts of name calling.

Colin Powell, a decorated patriot, has served his country nobly and well, having fought and won a war, among other things. If Rush has done anything of note besides make money from resentful, undereducated Americans, I'd like to know it, and I'd like for you, Matt, to be the one to articulate whatever it is.

Matt, of course you won't be able to name anything. Not one bloody thing. Nothing. This is because there is nothing to name. Any medals, any public offices? Uh, no. I'll say it again: nothing. Has he been wounded in the line of duty, and I'm not talking about pill-popping? I understand that resentful, undereducated Americans have special needs. This is why I am being so patient and redundant.


Now, Matt, now that you've had time to think, have you thought of anything of note Rush has contributed to America? No: you haven't. This is because there is nothing to think of. This is why your party was creamed a few weeks ago. It was nothing vs. something, and nothing lost. When nothing stops being nothing, please let us all know, k?

The Republican Party headlong rush to irrelevance is accelerating. They will soon poll behind the Peace & Freedom ticket.

I hope Obama's FCC reinstates the Fairness Doctrine and restores intelligence to our political discourse.

America is in terrible trouble, and people like Rush, Hannity, Roger Ailes and O'Reilly are no longer doing America any good by spreading hate and dissent based on a narrow interpretation of a discredited ideology.

The people have spoken. The election is over. Americans need to unite behind our President.

I am still struggling trying to understand how the mere fact of endorsing Obama should deprive Powell of the right to voice what he thinks of the Republican party. Is that because Powell is a Republican? Is the inference that he is a 'traitor' to the 'Cause', a 'turncoat'? Would Limbaugh recommend a purge of the party to get rid of the 'subversion' within the party? That is somehow reminiscent of Staline, no?

It seems that both parties stand for nothing. They shift with the wind to see what they can promise. The Democrats take the lead in this being willing to give away everything, except their cut, in order to get elected. If the country is destroyed is of no concern to them.

It is reassuring to know that Limbaugh will never rise to any position of power. If he did, we would probably see Gulag camps in Alaska .......

Lets call traitors as traitors. Both Lieberman and Powell are traitors. Powell has lost his dignity when he endorsed Obama just before the election because Obama is black.The same with Oprah.Powell is a military man and HE KNOWS THAT OBAMA IS NAIVE,INEXPERIENCED and not fit to be Commander-in-Chief. The same thing Hillary and Biden said.

The Republicans are not more fiscally conservative than the Democrats. They just spend on OTHER things, typically military hardware. Corporate socialism does just as well under Republicans as under Democrats. The list of recipients is just different.

Something else that I find deeply offensive about Rush and, frankly, about all the fake Coulter-style neocons, which is now a fringe lifestyle which Matt seems eager to join. This is the deepseated cowardice of these hypocrits. Now we have blogger/pundits who don't know a goddamn thing about anything, who for years have impugned the patriotism of Democrats as being "soft" etc. Listen, Matt. I am a veteran who served in the Middle East. I still bench press almost 300 pounds. I am a dead-serious, deadly, bad-ass mofo, and I admire Powell. I see Rush and all his lily-livered, pasty-faced, druggy, sexually wierd, chicken-hawk pals as the scum of the earth, big talkers who always shit themselves when challenged. That is the company you keep, Matt, so that's pretty much how I see you too.

Michael White-I am black.

Colin Powell is a soldier's soldier and the former leader of our entire arms forces. Most of the present day general officers served under him, I would imagine.

Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer.

The rush limbaugh show is nothing more than melodrama, just like soap operas and wrestling.

If any of you happened to get yourselves into a serious life threatening jackpot against an armed and determined enemy, ask yourselves who you'd want to help you out, Rush or Colin Powell.

Not to mention Michael White. Good post, man.
