Obama and Rick Warren: Gay Lobby Don't Like It

I think no matter who was picked for the invocation, someone would have complained. That goes with the territory, considering that this is one of those religious gray areas. IMO if you are going to send a message that you will not completely ignore those who diametrically oppose you, a token appearance can do the trick.

I do find it funny that nobody bothers to consider the atheist reaction to this. It would be hard to cater to them whoever you picked.

This is but another in the long list of non-stories.

The word is not "remind" everyone, but "convince" everyone. I am not convinced, however it doesn't matter. Just be honest. The truth is not being told. Beliefs aren't changed over night.

Seriously though, like someone else pointed out, there is no way he could have totally pleased everyone when it came to this particular issue. Religion/prayer is one of those things that divides people so deeply it's next to impossible to even build a bridge. Had he picked someone truly conservative like James Dobson, the gays and abortion-rights people would really be kicking and screaming; had he picked someone like that gay bishop (can't think of his name) then the conservatives would be pitching a fit. I think Rick Warren is a good choice; he really does seem to be a compassionate conservative (which even to a Christian like me sometimes seems like an oxy-moron).

I am surprised the Left hasn't protested a prayer (GASP)at the Inaugural. After all, that simply has to be a violation of the famous Establishment Clause because the Inaugural is being held on government property. What is this world coming to? Laying the sarcasm aside, the President-elect can choose the minister HE wants to give the invocation. That is his choice--not the radical Left or the radical Right. Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life has touched the hearts and souls of millions. Does he have an agenda? I don't know. Besides, don't we all have an agenda? We want a better life, a college degree, a new home, a new car, more children, a job that pays more, etc. Let's back off the silly criticism and let President-elect Obama celebrate the greatest day in his life. Six months from now most people won't remember who gave the invocation.

it is an invocation...i would suggest to you that are not gay that you do not know the thoughts of others...your opinion is your own...

those of you that are Christian...should try being more Christ like...open your hearts...

I voted for Barack Obama because I believed him to be the BEST for the job, NOT BECAUSE OF HIS PERSONAL BELIEVES.! ! It seems your only reason was because of his personal views on PEOPLES CHOICES.!

What a sad day it has become, when a group of people demand the right to tell the President elect who he should have give prayer at his Inaguration...Wants him to INCLUDE CERTAIN PEOPLE IN HIS CABINET, (whether they are qualified, or not), and make sure at least one person from their group gives a speech!!

AND all this because YOU GAVE MONEY to HIS election, and VOTED for him!
