I'll take "things that are absurd" for a thousand, Alex. After a run of challenged ballot decisions this morning, Al Franken leads Norm Coleman for the first time this election. Of course the numbers are temporary. The remaining challenges must be dealt with, and the thousands that were withdrawn will be added back into the recount totals. Until then there can be no real estimation of where the numbers stand. There are absentee ballots still being counted and there are court cases to come. The numbers, and probably the lead, will change a few more times before this all ends.
Even so, both campaigns are confident they will come out on top. Franken's confidence comes in spite of the fact that this is the first time the entire race he's had a lead, despite many miraculous events in his favor.
Speaking of strange events, by now most people following the recount have seen the "lizard people" ballot that recently made the rounds, but did you know about the flying spaghetti monster ballot? The video below is highly enlightening. I confess I knew about the lizard people on election day but still didn't vote for them. I like my candidates to be multi-dimensional of course, but not extra-dimensional.
