Bristol Palin's Baby Name: We (Almost) Called It!

Well folks, it really happened. As was reported here yesterday, Bristol Palin has given birth to a healthy, happy, bouncing Gift From God.

But the news gets even better! The baby's name is Tripp! And damn if it wasn't this close to our predicted name in last week's column, Trill. (Granted, we also suggested that the baby could be born on Inauguration Day and therefore be named Barack, but apparently there are enough kids with that name already.)

At least we know this much about the newborn baby: He's going to be a Republican. And not just because his grandmother is Sarah Palin. It's just that there's no possible way that someone named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston could ever be anything but a Republican.

Yes, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston immediately gets a spot in the canon of great Republican names, right up alongside Saxby Chambliss, Schuyler Colfax (Grant's Vice President), Tagg Romney (Mitt's son), and G. Gordon Liddy (Watergate felon).

And in case you were wondering: No comments yet from Tripp's undoubtedly proud Uncle Trig, but we're going to assume he approved of the name.
