After reading your article, I was reminded that you are right!! And, I thought so at the time; but much has past that tends to confuse things.
But you are DEAD RIGHT. America IS to BLAME FOR A LOT OF MISTAKES in the Mid-East.
Sen. John Fitzgerald Kennedy prophecied the eventual eruption of Anti-American sentiment and conflicts in the Mid-East. But even JFK didn't do anything MAJOR to stop the process..
Obama may have the intelligence and charisma to make a dent. Let's hope so.

Israel/Hamas War Continues
Israel continues to conduct military operations in Gaza today in an attempt to destroy the Hamas terror infrastructure that has launched over 6,000 missiles into Israel since 2005. Israeli aircraft hit strategic targets throughout Gaza yesterday, while Hamas fired more than 70 rockets at Jewish cities and homes.
Notice the values of the two sides. Israel tries to avoid civilian casualties, but Hamas hides its arms in mosques and uses civilians as shields – both violations of international law. Hamas seeks civilian casualties among its own people for propaganda purposes and among Israelis to spread fear and terror. And just in case there is any confusion about the evil Israel is fighting, Jonah Goldberg of National Review posted these gems from the Hamas charter:
“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”
“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.” The contrast couldn’t be clearer to everyone – except Big Media and the political Left, which continually present the radical Islamists as “David” and Israel as “Goliath.” Unbelievably, the American Left is planning to hold “Gaza solidarity” rallies today in 26 states.
There was also action on the high seas. A boatload of self-proclaimed human rights activists heading toward Gaza to help the suffering Hamas fighters (of course) was intercepted by Israeli naval vessels. On board was former Democrat Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, best known for her anti-Semitism and anti-Israel rants. McKinney was a daily embarrassment while in Congress, and now she has taken her show overseas.
Even Hamas must wonder in amazement at what goes on the in the minds of the radical Left that leads them to oppose Western Civilization and embrace murderers like Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. Lenin called people like McKinney “useful idiots.” I was so happy at the news that her boat was stopped that I am searching for a way to make a donation to the Israeli Navy!

Cenk, it's a pity that more Americans aren't as politically astute as you, the world would be a much safer place if they were better informed.
I am from the UK and clicking around the various states on the map I am disappointed that only about 5% of Americans realise how much America is to blame for the current problems in the Middle East. The main reason for the blame is because America is the only country that can influence Israel, yet it is tacitly supporting Israel's subjugation of the Palestinians.
Since Israel supposedly withdrew from Gaza three years ago they have turned the place into one large prison camp and have continued kidnappings and killings of Palestinians. Israel did not respect the cease-fire, Is it any wonder that Hamas has attempted to retaliate by firing their puny rockets?
Hamas has accepted a two state solution if Israel will withdraw to the 1967 borders yet America still allows Israel to ignore this solution and all of the UN resolutions against Israel to implement it. Instead, America bankrolls Israel in it's further annexations of Palestinian territory.
The whole world can see the solution yet America for their own selfish reasons ignores it. I hope that Barack Obama has the guts to face Americans and tell them a few painful home truths, America and the world needs it.

I myself was appalled to find out I am of the minority of Americans who realize ISRAEL IS WRONG. It is a Shame we will never have peace in the middle east as long as USrael is allowed to continue terrorizing people and stealing/keeping their lands. Penning them in like rats in a cage, then saying they aren't terrorists doesn't make it so. Can I chop off your hand then say I didn't mean to do it, but you were annoying me, so it's okay? NO! YES I agree it is the beginning of almost all of our recent trouble and the international anti- american sentiment keeps right on growing along with their bombs.(Israels) It is a shame our generation is so very ignorant and selfish to think this war, and/or the people who hate us is all about oil when its been this way for more than 50 years for the poor palestinian people. whywhywhy won't anyone stop Israel??????????

The British never should have carved out a section of Palestine for Israel. The Palestinians resent it, and Islamists are determined to wipe Israel off the map. If that part of Palestine had been used to establish a country for any other ethnic group, say Armenians or Turks, would Hamas and others still try to destroy them? Mesopetamia is called the "Cradle of Civilization." The Middle East was developed long before Europe. Will civilization end there, too?

It is sad that women and children through no fault of their own, get caught up in this fighting. Because women are not respected in arab lands, the men define how they live. Would you let your husband put missiles in your home to use them against somebody? Would you let your children play with arms and ammunition? It appears it is a land of no love, compassion, or liberty.
Wars that only go after civilians is cruel and must be stopped at any cost. Hamas doesn't send rockets to hit military installations, only women and children. They are cowards. They yell and carry on in front of a camera, but what are they fighting for? To destroy Israel? Why? Because they are different religions? Well watch out world, the more arms they get the more they will come after the women and children.
Hamas is a terrorist group. No humanity here. No women rights. No education. No nothing. They are hollow inside. So full of hate. It is sad. But Israel must defend itself. My prayers are with the women and children who must live in this world of disrespect and hate.

The world continues to pay for inaction during the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people. We ignored the cries of millions of innocent men, women, and children and are punished with violence, hatred, and chaos in the Middle East. The Jewish people would still be living in Europe, but for the Holocaust. The Holocaust forced them to take up residence in Israel. We have a moral obligation to protect the Jewish people. The Palestinians need to condemn violence and commit to peace. Both peoples have a historic claim to the land.

********************************************************************************************************** To: curly lind,
You stated "It's all the same God". You obviously have not done your homework! Allah started out as a rock-god (still is a rock-god, will always be a dead rock-god, etc...) They want you to THINK it's the living God of the Bible so their terrorism/holy wars are justified. Until you EDUCATE YOURSELF please don't spew lies about God and Allah, they are COMPLETE opposites!
The Bible CLEARLY demands that we are to DEFEND THE FAITH!! We are not to be 'tolerant' of other religions. This does not mean we don't love others, it means that loving someone is showing them when their thinking can harm them!!
It's a free online book about the Mulsim/Islam movement. It will vastly expand your thinking. Feel free to forward the link to everyone on you mailing list, they will thank you for it! Enjoy...
You people just don't get it. The problem is the desire of the Palestinians to kill Jews. The closure of Gaza is due to 3 years! of daily rocket fire from HAMAS.
Gaza was a test to find out which the Palestinians wanted more, their own state or dead Jews. They answered loud and clear.
The Palestinians have shown that when given land, it will not be used for peace, but for terrorism. There has never been an Arab Palestine (before Egypt occupied Gaza, it was British, before that Ottoman never Arab run), and after the way they have acted in Gaza, hopefully there will never be one.
The stumbling block to peace is not some dispute over territory or occupation.
Proof of this:
- Arab nationalists sought the destruction of Israel before any territory fell under Israeli control, right from the 1948 War of Independence, through to the Six Day War of 1967 - the war in which the disputed territory fell to Israel.
- Time after time the Palestinians were offered solutions on very favorable terms and rejected them, for example when Arafat declined at Camp David - to the shock of all present - Ehud Barak's offer of 97% of the so-called occupied territories.
- History has shown that every concession to the pro-Palestinian groups has increased their terrorist activity instead of decreasing it. Ehud Barak withdrew from Lebanon - Hizbullah sends missiles into Israel from the forfeited territory and captures Israeli hostages; Ariel Sharon withdrew, at great cost and pain from the Gaza Strip - the Palestinians send missiles into Israeli cities at increasing frequency and with larger payloads.
The Palestinians (along Al-Qaida, Hezbullah and their Iranian sponsors) are waging a holy war against the West: America, Israel and all free societies. They will not rest until the free world submits to Islamic domination or until the Western free societies defeat them.
After Isreal they come after us. Again.
The defenseless and impoverished women, infants and elderly have been imprisoned by their own tribal leaders and regional political regimes. The UN and other world organizations have poured billions of dollars into the Palestinian refugees cause, will few results, because the funds have been put to poor use and often embezzled by area leaders.
There will be no real solution until Arabs and Palestinians stop excusing their corrupt leaders, REJECT RELIGIOUS FANATICS and begin to build up their own social and economic structures without relying on hatred of Israel and the West.
Learn about the ‘sacred’ texts of Islam, its record of interaction with other societies, and the personality of its founder, Muhammad. The Prophet of Doom provides the clue to the motives, ambitions and methods of modern terrorists. Google: prophetofdoom.net
Blessings :-)

You can't expect using the same strategies to have different results. The Obama people's reaction as far as the Middle East is concerned has been so far a carbon copy of the Bush Administration. I guess peace in the Middle East is not for tomorrow.

How can any one think that Israel is responsible for the latest violence. Israel is finally reacting to the baseless violence started by the "leaders" of the anti-Israel states. I cannot help but think that a combination of Israel and Arab states working together would be a most powerful economic force. Why haven't the anti-Israel people figured this out?? Israel's biggest mistake has been to to try make peace knowing full well that the counterparts do not wish to make peace. The only thing that the Arabs/Muslims did not count on was the Israeli resolve! Israel's response to the Hamas initiated violence shows strength and maybe the Arab/Muslim world should understand that Israel must and will now negotiate from this strength and not any perceived weakness.

I don't think that God meant for the Holy Land to be the place of the second holocaust. Palastine for the palestinians. As far as Hamas is concern, it was founded by the Israelies in order to get rit of Arafat. I suppose it's "an eye for an eye..... We can't always have it our way, can we?

Vilma:
Hamas grew out of the Muslim Brotherhood, a religious and political organization founded in Egypt with branches throughout the Arab world.
Beginning in the late 1960s, Hamas's founder and spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, preached and did charitable work in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, both of which were occupied by Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War.
In 1973, Yassin established al-Mujamma' al-Islami (the Islamic Center) to coordinate the Muslim Brotherhood's political activities in Gaza.
Yassin founded Hamas as the Muslim Brotherhood's local political arm in December 1987, following the eruption of the first intifada, a Palestinian uprising against Israeli control of the West Bank and Gaza. Hamas published its official charter in 1988.
The first Hamas suicide bombing took place in April 1993. Five months later, Yasir Arafat, the then-leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and Yitzhak Rabin, then-prime minister of Israel, sealed the Oslo accords—an Israeli-Palestinian peace pact that eventually unraveled.
