So Rod Blagojevich found his man, and it's Roland Burris.
Burris, a former Illinois Comptroller and State Attorney General, will be named to fill Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat later today.
While this is clearly a big day for Burris, the question now is what's in it for Blagojevich? Clearly, a bribe was offered, but it may be weeks before Patrick Fitzgerald reveals it in a [bleep]-filled press conference.
Tell us what Burris offered that, say, Mike Ditka could not.
Not aware of this man at all, but if the pick is a legitimate one, you have to ask: how much are the powers that be going to fight the nomination of an African-American to the Senate? The ONLY African-American in the Senate, once Obama is President. Maybe this Blagojevich guy isn't a total dummy after all.

Our Guv is no fool. Burris has a constituency in Illinois. Obama and Emanuel thought they could knock the Guv out fast without getting any of Illinois slease clinging to their own pants legs. The Guv has made chumps of them. Burris will be our Senator.

Why would you even ask, "how much did this guy offer the Governor"?

The Senate acted prematurely in issuing a statement earlier this month. The Senate should sanction Burris and seat him without any hesitation. According to the law in the State of Illinois, the presiding governor has the right to appoint a replacement. I am aware of Burris' long record as a public servant and there has never been any hint of inpropriety on his part. Let the State of Illinois and the federal government deal with the allegations against the governor. Burris is a decent and honest person. He is well-qualified to serve at Senator; he is not the the problem.

REGARDLESS OF WHO OR WHAT BURRIS IS OR IS NOT THE UNFORTUNATE TRUTH IS THAT HE IS TAINTED FROM JUMP STREET BECAUSE OF WHO APPOINTED HIM. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF HIM BUT SOUNDS LIKE HE HAS A LONG HISTORY OF POLITICAL LIFE AND SOUNDS OTHERWISE VERY COMPIDENT TO SERVE. THE QUESTION WILL ALWAYS LOOM, HOW MUCH DID HE PAY FOR THE JOB.

BILL BAAR, I GUESS BY YOUR COMMENT THAT YOU ARE ADMITTING TO THE FACT THAT "YOUR GUV" IS A SLUDGEY SLEASEBALL. AS FOR HIS SHIT STICKING TO ROM AND BARACKS PANT LEGS, WELL WISH IN ONE HAND AND SHIT IN THE OTHER BUDDY AND SEE WHICH COMES UP THE FULLEST AND THE FASTEST.

I can't help but think that Burris was named in an attempt to KEEP HIM FROM BEING THE ULTIMATE NOMINEE, since Blagojevich would KNOW that ANYONE he chose would have a hard time being approved by the Democrats. Possible BURRIS was someone who WAS NOT RECEPTIVE to the extortion efforts by Balgojevich. I would certainly want this possibility to be investigated before excluding Burris from the job.

I aggree with William. But I also think that Blogo knew that anyone appointed would have been negated. He accomplished two things in total spite. He took a good canidate and tainted him and also fueled our race relations when congress does not support Burris, They will say it is because of his race. Maybe to keep the press on that and not on him. His first choice was Davis, (another African American,) but he was smart enough to say no. Too bad I think he might have ruined it for a good man. Rush should have spoken more about the man Burris is instead of how important is is to have his color in the senate. His integraty is WAY more important than his race.

Hmmm...let me see...Burris is a former Attorney General, and Blago is in deep legal feces. Gee, what could Blago be thinking???????? One hand washes the other?

Belle, the operative word in that post is "former." He can't do anything for Blago now, and would be even stupider than Blago himself if he tried. He has apparently given $$$ to Blago's past campaigns (when he wasn't running unsuccessfully against him), but I know of no evidence of "pay to play" here. And if there is any, I imagine Fitz has it on tape.
