President-Elect Barack Obama is moving his family to Washington, DC, this weekend, immediately after they return from their Hawaiian vacation. The goal is to get his daughters, Malia and Sasha, into town in order to start the second semester on time at their new school, Sidwell Friends (a tony Quaker school previously profiled by two deadbeat alums).

Obama's first hope was to stay in Blair House, the official White House guest residence, but that idea got nixed. Apparently, it was already booked until January 15th (presumably by George Bush's old frat buddies, in town for one last hurrah).

So, it's time for Plan B: they're moving into a hotel.

Even in a town where the hotels are swamped for the inauguration, it turns out to be possible to get a room if you're the one being inaugurated.

President-elect Barack Obama and his family will move to the capital this weekend in time for his daughters to start school, aides said Tuesday. With the White House still occupied and the official guest residence unavailable, the future first family will hole up in one of the city's most exclusive hotels.

The Obama team ... found a hotel with a suite large enough for the presidential family until the Obamas can move to Blair House. Transition officials would not identify the hotel out of security concerns.

It's anyone's guess where the Obamas will check in. We hear very nice things about the Watergate Hotel, and we think their might be some sort of historic thing that happened there. Oh, there's also the Mayflower hotel - that one's really popular with elected officials from out of town, like Governor Eliot Spitzer. Sometimes they even hold very special meetings there!

But clearly times are tight, and the Obamas might not be able to spring for a luxury hotel. Well, there's always the HoJo over on Florida Avenue!

Of course, wherever they stay, it will have to be good enough for his mother in law.
