The news just keeps getting better. Barack Obama just nominated Leon Panetta to head CIA. Panetta was a key member of the Administration that gutted American Intelligence agencies during the Clinton years.

Some us appreciate the fact that this country has not been attacked again for more than SEVEN years? Under Bill Clinton, Americans were attacked in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2000. Bill’s response was to shoot down a renegade aspirin factory. You see, with cigars and Monica, it was really inconvenient to look after national security! Yes, Panetta is a wonderful choice!

I guess I have a question at this point...is Obama trying to get rid of the supporters he has? One would certainly have plenty of ammunition to gaze outwardly in astonishment at some recent turns of events here. Now today we have the cabinet pick of the "new" CIA director in Leon Panetta. Does everyone know the history here? I'm thinking there's going to be a run on gas masks and bombshelters pretty soon.....Oy!

You cannot in any way even suggest that this was due to any kind of republican diligence. They are the personification of the keystone cops.

I think the reason we weren't attacked again was because it was unnecessary.

In one attack, bin Laden achieved what he needed for the remainder of bush's terms. He divided the nation, got bush to eliminate his greatest secular enemy in the middle east for free, shelled our economy and conned bush into borrowing it all from communists. Bin laden plays republicans like an oud.

bin laden's candidate was bush according to global press, and now the party's over, I expect his get out of jail free card has expired.

Republicans have always failed at waging war. They're always in it for money and power, not defense of America or Americans.

Hell, their quartermaster corps is a private Dubai corporation.

There was no security protocol at all for hospitals, railroads, ports, chemical plants, oil refineries, public drinking water lakes and reservoirs or water tables, bridges or anyplace else a corporate titan didn't want to have to spend money.

It was a good excuse to abolish habeas corpus and the bill of rights, but he had no security and no plots busted that weren't low level annoyance foolishness.

You need to get that from some source other than L rush hubbardbaugh. It's not true at all.

Clinton's popularity is for many reasons, wars won, not dragged on, a sound economy with a budget surplus, a growing middle class and nearly no military losses in Bosnia.

His creds have grown since leaving office and his popularity on leaving was in the high sixties.

There's no need to defend that since it speaks for itself, and it's pretty pointless to keep on attacking it. He got all this done through years of white noise from a special 'persecutor' that had no lawful agenda and spent taxpayers money perpetuating his own position.

Clif, only in your hallucinogenic world is Bill Clinton’s bombing of a renegade aspirin factory considered a response.

On Feb. 26, 1993, a car bomb was detonated at the World Trade Center in New York City, killing six people and injuring thousands. The bomb caused extensive damage to the complex. Osama bin Laden is suspected to have been behind the attacks.
In reacting to the attack, Clinton urged calm.
"I would plead with the American people and the good people of New York to keep your courage up and go on about your lives. I would discourage the American people from overreacting to this," Clinton said.

On June 25, 1996, terrorists attacked the U.S. military complex and Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, killing 19 Americans and wounding hundreds more.

The explosive used in the bombing of the Khobar Towers came out of the Becca Valley in Lebanon. A year later, however, Bill Clinton restored full diplomatic relations with Lebanon including lifting travel restrictions and trade restrictions. Without requiring them to locate, arrest, apprehend or compensate U.S. citizens, Clinton just let it go.

On Aug. 7, 1998, terrorists bombed the U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing 258 people. More than 5,000 were injured.
The attacks were blamed on bin Laden's terrorist group, al-Qaeda, which by this time had developed into a worldwide network. On Aug. 20, 1998, Bill Clinton ordered cruise missile attacks on a pharmaceutical plant in Khartoum, Sudan.

On Oct. 12, 2000, terrorists bombed the USS Cole as it sat in the Yemeni port of Aden. The bomb killed 17 U.S. sailors. American officials quickly linked the attack to bin Laden and al-Qaeda.

Bill Clinton's response:
"If, as it now appears, it was an act of terrorism, it was a despicable and cowardly act," he said. "We will find out who was responsible, and hold them accountable. If their intention was to deter us from our mission of promoting peace and security in the Middle East, they will fail, utterly." Clinton ordered U.S. Navy ships into the Yemeni region and directed ground forces to step up their security measures. They spent a lot of money but it was always a symbolic gesture without the substantive approach.

An utter novice of Intelligence issues. Even his own party is up in arms about this appointment.

Beelzebub, you are at it again.

Bin Laden did not divide our nation. The nation was united until Democrats decided that it was politically expedient to oppose in order to win. If it were not for the economic implosion (and its dubious timing) the reliance on (and hope for) failure in Iraq could very well have backfired.

Then we could have all watched Queen Pelosi force feed her agenda to Big Mac instead of it being rubber stamped by The Big O. I still don't like the Liberal strategy of failure dependency, even though I am happy with the ultimate outcome.
