The notion that Bill Richardson may not have been completely forthcoming with Obama regarding his questionable dealings is not terribly surprising. It is human nature for many to hope for the best, and to downplay (or cover up) the worst.
By the way, this is one reason I've always thought that, despite claims to the contrary, there might be something embarrassing to come out of the Blago/Rahm Emanuel phone conversations. Why would Rahm tell Obama if he, in fact, had said something embarrassing?
Regardless, the Richardson story isn't likely to hurt Obama. First, despite his help to Obama during the campaign, he was only going to be Commerce Secretary. Second, by quickly stepping down, he has probably ensured the story will go away quickly.
On the other hand, this is one more reminder that the Democrats, who criticized the Republicans' "culture of corruption" are slowly beginning to accumulate a "Hall of Shame" of their own...
