Jeb Bush Says No To Senate Run

Even though he was endorsed by a former president (George H.W. Bush), Jeb Bush has announced he won't be running for Senate in Florida in 2010. Bush said he wants to continue building his real estate business and devote more time to his family.

I'm sure GOP officials are disappointed by the news. Jeb would have been an instant front-runner to take over Mel Martinez's seat, which will be empty in two years. Now it's likely to be a crowded primary field.
"After thoughtful consideration, I have decided not to run for the United States Senate in 2010," said Bush. "While the opportunity to serve my state and country during these turbulent and dynamic times is compelling, now is not the right time to return to elected office."
Why do I get the feeling that 2012 might be the right time for Jeb to return to elected office?

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
