Hey Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)... got a favor to ask of you, buddy. Would you mind repeating that
idle threat you issued to Rod Blagojevich a few weeks back? Ya know, the one about...
Please understand that should you decide to ignore the request of the Senate Democratic Caucus and make an appointment we would be forced to exercise our Constitutional authority under Article I, Section 5, to determine whether such a person should be seated.
Yeah, yeah, that one. It
was you who said that, right?
I ask because today, my brother and I are just sitting here flipping through the
Wall Street Journal like a couple of Joes-- and it's got this big headline that says "
Democrats Retreat on Burris."
And I'm thinking, "Now that ain't right. Isn't Burris that guy that
Rod Blagojevich appointed to the Senate, despite you, Harry Reid, telling him not to?"
And yet here you are saying: "There's going to come a time when the entire Senate is going to have to act on this, and that day, I hope, would come sooner rather than later."
Well gee, Senator. From the makings of that statement, it sounds like you're ready to accept this man into the club. And doesn't that mean... stay with me, Harry... that
Rod Blagojevich won??
I mean your colleagues
certainly think so...
Senate Democrats have no choice but to change their tone about Roland Burris becoming a U.S. senator because Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich "called our bluff" in appointing someone over their objections, a senior Democratic congressional source conceded Wednesday.
"Called our bluff"? Senator, no offense but you just got hosed by the most crooked Illinois governor
since George Ryan.
But chin up, Harry! One of these days, you're gonna find a battle even you can win. Hey! Maybe you can challenge New York Governor David Paterson to a
seeing contest before he gets to make
his Senate appointment.
