Monday Morning Clacker has an interview with would-have-been first daughter Meghan McCain, the young woman who, like the Romney 5 before her, merged personal revelations with campaign messaging in a way not previously seen in America. While the interview shows Ms. McCain to be a likable, somewhat idiosyncratic person (most notably for her love of Wonderbra creator and Marylin Manson ex, Dita von Tesse), the real news generated from this interview resulted in the one subject on which she refused to offer up an honest opinion: Sarah Palin. Here's the exchange:

So, no comment on the selection of Governor Sarah Palin as Senator McCain's running mate?

"Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won't comment on publicly."

Hmm. Rather odd that the single most talked about aspect of her father's campaign should be off limits, but there you go. What other highlights does Meghan's chat offer?

On the subject of high heels: "The only time you won't find me in heels is when I'm swimming!" Given that the picture that runs with the article shows her barefoot, we can safely assume she was heading into the pool.

On the media: Pretty clear they loved Obama and hated her dad.

On blogging: Old people just don't get it. And when you start talking about yourself all the time, people tend to criticize you (ain't that the truth).

On Outlaw Bikers: "I've been learning how to ride a motorcycle. I was inspired by Bikers For McCain and want to go back to Sturgis next year and do bike week right."

Woohoo! To catch up on the latest from Meghan--see family vacation photos in Fiji, listen to playlists of her favorite songs (everything from Led Zeppelin to Mos Def) and much, much more--have a gander at her site, McCainBloggette.com. Who knows, maybe someday, she'll get around to telling us what she really thinks about Palin.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
