Secretary Biden?

During an interview taping with Oprah Winfry, Jill Biden let slip that her husband, now Vice President-elect Joe Biden, was offered the position of Vice President OR Secretary of State. According to the soon-to-be Second Lady, Biden picked Vice President because it requires less travel.

Joe Biden shushed his wife after the disclosure. Afttwards the professional communications staff issued a statement saying that she misrepresented the real story.

Sure.

Both the Secretary of State and Vice President famously spend a ton of time representing America at funerals, ribbon cuttings and conference talking-a-thons.

Assuming Dr. Jill Biden is honest and it's the politicians who are being less than forthright about the story, it's an interesting behind the scenes story for a couple of reasons. First, it tells us something about Joe Biden. Secondly, it tells us something about someone we really know little about but are learning: Barack Obama.

The assumptions, as a candidate, Obama held when selecting his running-mate are of course a matter of perspective. The 53% of the people who voted for him, will no doubt see Obama as simply being thoughtful and piecing together a team from a big-picture perspective. The nearly 50% who did support Obama-Biden might see an arrogance and political calculation.
