Barack Obama has won his fight to keep his BlackBerry smart phone, a privilege that had been in doubt due to considerable security concerns. According to inside sources:

A ruling has been reached among the president's advisers – and the Secret Service – that will allow him to keep his e-mailing device. The decision is set to be explained this afternoon at the first White House briefing of the new administration.

For two months now, Mr. Obama has been waging a vigorous public relations campaign among his aides and his minders to keep his BlackBerry, which he has relied upon for years. He insisted, officials said, that they find a way to allow him to step into the modern age and stay in touch with a small circle of associates.

Take that, aides! You can't stifle the freedom of expression of Barack Obama!

We can assume that Obama will have the finest technology security in the world making sure that he doesn't end up like Paris Hilton and her Sidekick. And furthermore, he has apparently agreed to reserve confidential communication for telephone and in-person contact, and reserve the BlackBerry for more mundane dialogue with family and staff.

Obama also consented to never using the BlackBerry while driving, paying the bills himself, and phoning the Secret Service at 9:30 every night he goes out to report on where he's going and who's with him.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
