Day 2 of the Obama administration and things are still going pretty well for Obama's agenda.

As expected, he signed the order to close the prison at Guantanamo. Like this move or hate it, it's a step forward for someone who, you know, wants to close the prison at Guantanamo (you can vote on how you feel about that here).

Timothy Geithner, Obama's choice for Treasury Secretary was approved to move to the Senate for a full vote by the Senate Finance Committee. There had been some controversy over his failure to pay income taxes, but it does not look like that will be an impediment to his eventual appointment.

As articulated by Candy Crowley over at CNN, Democratic Congressional leaders decided to show some independence and tacitly state that they would work with, not for, Obama. And, of course, Obama gets to have a Blackberry!

The running tally and an explanation of what this is all about can be found here, and if I missed any major stories, let me know in the comments. I'll add them in.

UPDATE 1/23/09: Thanks to Debra S for the suggestions of stories I missed. I'm going to skip Hillary's first day as that sort of feels like a non-event, though I agree the mainstream press tried to play it into something. The new briefings didn't make the headlines I saw, but I think it comes as a surprise that he was not receiving those already.

Hiring more smart, respected people definitely counts as a plus though, so I'll add that.
