The RNC Stole the headlines by choosing
Michael Steele as their new party chair. Steele, who last was on the national stage during a close, but failed Senate bid in Maryland in 2006, will be the first African American chair of the Republican party.
What does this have to do with the Obama administration? I argued to myself that it will play a role in 2012 when Obama is up for re-election. The selection of Steele could indicate that the GOP is going to make more of an attempt in the next election to reach out to minority voters. Steele is also something of a moderate, so his selection could be an indication that the Republicans will be making an appeal to those middle of the road voters again. So I could mark it as a setback.
I'm going to go ahead and say that today, the Michael Steele pick is all about Michael Steele, and let him have his day.
Therefore, there is no real news that I see that strongly impacts the Obama administration directly today. An inauspicious end to his first 10 days in office. So instead, let's tally up the President's score to date.
