Despite Promises, Gregg Pick May Still Hurt GOP

I know that having cabinet members from both parties is supposed to be reassuring. Looking at the parties as of late though, it just starts to look like there is no real difference between them anyway. Whoever is in power spends on their pet projects. Whoever is out of power objects and argues. What neither side remembers is to do what is best for those who put them in office, not just themselves.

Well, rumor has it that Judd Gregg would have faced a tough re-election in the Senate. Not because Gregg is not a solid Senator, but because New Hampshire - a state that prides itself on their indepdendent voters - has trended more towards the Democrats lately. I am not certain what you mean be a "strong" Republican - it is New England, and only moderate Republicans will survive. The two Republican Senators from Maine seem to do OK for themselves by playing it down the middle.

I heard on the news today that the Governor is putting in place a "moderate Republican" in Gregg's place.

The majority of "real" New Hampshire voters are still republicans. The reason that New Hampshire has trended more towards the Democrats lately is because of the large amount of people (all democrats) who have left Massachusetts and crossed over the border to New Hampshire. As of now, New Hampshire still doesn't have a sales tax or a State income tax. Their auto insurance is much cheaper and they do not have the mandatory health insurance law that Massachusetts inacted. Most people find it too expensive to live in Massachusetts (otherwise known as Taxachusetts) so they move over the border and are able to live cheaper.

If this is President Obama's selection I go along with it.

I think that it is wise requesting a member of the same party to replace him...it sounds fair.

So what you're saying, is that if I've lived in Maryland and decided to move to Virginia, and went ahead with it, then I wouldn't be a "Real" Virginian?

Now what if I was a registered Republican? Would I be a "real" Virginian then?

But say I live in Virginia and a pay my property taxes and other taxes, why would I not be a "real" Virginian?

If he wants the job and is good for the country, he should take it. As far as replacing him with a conservative republican, just because the GOP wants it, I wouldn't. For eight years they stuffed whatever they wanted down the throats of Americans and if you dissented you were Unpatriotic. Nah they don't get to decide anything anymore til they steal the next election. The voters have spoken...nuff said.

Botts: I would say that Lori explained herself very well. What she has described is not uncommon. She didn't say that they were not considered residents of New Hampshire. She pointed out why her state has increased its number of Democrates.
As far as Senator Gregg is concerned, it's only fair tht his replacement be a Republican. Thats the party the voters voted in when they elected Gregg.

The Democrats know they've been successful when the states in their control have highest state income and sales taxes, highest unemployment rates, highest poverty levels and sky-rocketing crime rates.

Michael Steele is the real “Magic Negro.” Steele only triumphed after Chip Saltsman, a former aide to GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, withdrew from the race. Saltsman, several weeks ago, distributed copies of a CD with the racially-inflammatory songs “Barack the Magic Negro” and “The Star Spanglish Banner,” both racist rebarbatives aimed at blacks and Hispanics.
Which was played on the Rush Limbaugh show and he laughed.

Steele is a temporary plug in for a racist party that has been hemorrhaging seriously since the Democratic victory on November 4th 2008.

I am waiting for the day when they turn against poor Steele, who will try to mix some of his BLACK AGENDA with the RACIST AGENDA,….. a potentially explosive mixture.

First, it was McCain selecting Palin to lure Clinton voters, now it is Steele to lure black voters. Once again Republicans have shown that they have no respect for the intelligence of the American public. A black TOKEN in a party run by rich and racist white guys, with not a single black representative in Congress, will not work.

If Republicans want to be taken seriously by blacks and other minorities, they have to abandon the SOUTHERN STRATEGY, and start massaging black causes — principally, the right of a black man, woman and child, to live with respect!

Botts, I'll see if I can explain it better but I'm not that great on getting my meaning down on words.
When I said "real New Hampshire voters", I meant the people who were born and raised in New Hampshire from families that had lived in New Hampshire for generations. Maybe I should have used the word "original voters" instead of "real voters". I can't think of another word to use to discribe a person born in a State vs a person who moves to the State.
Since the early 1990 up to 2008 there has been an increase of New Hampshire population of about 39% and a large amount of the increase were people from Massachusetts which in turn changed the voting patterns of New Hampshire (which, up to 1992, had always voted Republican.)
All I was trying to do was give a reason why New Hampshire, who use to vote Republician, now votes democrat. I did not mean to insult anyone or insinuate that I preferred one party over another.

Here are five facts about the new leader of the Republican party:

1. Steele compared stem cell research to Nazi experiments during the Holocaust.

2. Steele bused in homeless African Americans from Philadelphia to distribute literature in inner-city Baltimore that featured a "Sample Democratic Ballot" with votes for Steele and former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, along with photos of prominent black Democrats.

3. Steele once described that "R" next to his name as a "scarlet letter," complaining that being a Republican was hurting his electoral chances.

4. Steele was endorsed by Mike Tyson during his run for Senate. When Tyson, who used to be married to Steele's half sister, pleaded no contest to assault in Montgomery County in 1998, Steele was on hand to support him.

5. Steele defended former Gov. Bob Ehrlich's decision to hold a $100,000 fundraiser at a country club that did not allow non-white members, saying that the club's membership's policies were "not an issue" because "I don't play golf."

Steele flunked the moral courage test on November, 7, 2006, when he was the Republican candidate for the United States Senate from Maryland. As Election Day approached, one of Steele's supporters, Emma Jean Thompson, distributed flyers in African-American neighborhoods, attacking Steele's Jewish opponent. The headline stated, "Ben Cardin Promises to attack Jesus Christ, Pastors, Churches and Christians and to Take Away Blacks' Freedom If He Is Elected." The flyer listed issues, including same sex marriage and abortion, and stated that Steele is "for what Jesus says" and Cardin is "against what Jesus says." The flyer went on to announce "Cardin VS Christ" and asked readers to "Vote for Michael Steele."

Thompson, who is co-pastor of Integrity Church International in Landover, Maryland, attended Steele's pre-election press conference. She made her attacks in the name of "Black Women in Maryland" and had the flyers distributed at Churches in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

On election morning 2006, stories about this flyer appeared in the Washington Post and in an Associated Press story. The publications also reported on how Steele intentionally misled African American voters about his party affiliation and endorsements of a number of prominent Democratic African American elected officials. The press gave Michael Steele and his campaign an opportunity to denounce the outlandish bigotry of his supporters, but he declined to do so.

Immediately after the election, Jewish community leadership privately contacted then Lt. Governor Steele to ask him to repudiate these anti-Semitic attacks. Steele stonewalled for more than two weeks

What it does say is that when faced with a choice between political expediency and denouncing bigotry, Steele chose expediency.

The RNC could use a truly inspiring and moral leader. They could have done better than Michael Steele.

As part of his acceptance speech, Michael Steele made a reference suggesting that if people don't come over to our side or get out of the way, "we will run you over." Mr. Steele should be very careful as he may find that that the people the Republicans run over may very well be themselves.

this is right on the money...there are a few things that are occurring now (which i will share later after the shift is complete) but they GOP has proven itself incapable of correcting and sadly may soon be at its demise...
