Tommy Christopher
seems to think Robert Gibbs' problem is that he speaks with too little candor. I'm going to have to go ahead and call that a
major understatement:
"Transparency? Transparency? Don't we have any questions about how Obama is really tough in the cold and all the people down here need to toughen up a little? Oh, right ...
too soon?"
Gibbs obviously has a number of problems, and believe me that was not the only flat-footed moment during that press conference, but obfuscating
about transparency and trying to belittle the issue just about takes the cake. Especially considering the Obama mythology that he is the transparency-est transparencist that ever transparently transpired. Ever!
Tapper has Gibbs dead to rights on this one, and even Helen Thomas knows it. Just look at her face at about 1:00 in the clip. If you're a liberal, or just play one in press conferences, and
Helen Thomas isn't on your side!? ... time to rethink your strategy.
