The ones who voted no are those without standards and values and are very much capable of committing what Phelps had committed. They put themselves in Phelps' shoes thinking "What if it had been me?"

Kelloggs sells lots of cereal to PARENTS!!!
Why don't you redo this poll and also ask how many of those responding have kids???
Phelps should GROW UP. Do some positive community service work (voluntarily). Too many kids follow adult male athletes who are emotionally still age 13. More adult male role models needed Less Peter Pans.
If Phelps can demonstrate he's MATURED so his behavior comes close to his legal age---put him back on Kelloggs!

How many PARENTS want Phelps--the pot smoker---on their cereal box for the 10 year old to see--tomorrow?
If Phelps repudiates marijuana, and does some quality community work for kids---and otherwise acts even CLOSE to his legal age...then maybe Kelloggs could - again - consider him an adult role model & maybe re-sign him.
NO MORE PETER PAN MALES!!!

If he is to be looked up to as a role model he needs to set a good example. This incident was a big error in judgment & he should have known better. There will always be those who are looking for a "slip-up" & making sure the public learns of it. Jealousy, perhaps. At the same time I believe Kelloggs did the right thing. It is not good business sense for them to have a photographed pot smoker featured on their box. It sends the wrong message to children......something all the corporate & political greed & scandal does too. When will they learn?

OF course if there were pictures of Phelps chugging a Budweiser he would be applauded for being "the all American boy". and alcohol related deaths reach nearly 400,000 a year in the USA. but smoking a bud in a party setting is scandalous and abhorrent ? What a hypocritical and trivial society America is. I bet nearly everyone who isn't Mormon or Kathy Lee Gifford has at some point taken a hit of weed at a party. Big Deal - no addiction and no death. Believe me there are important issues in this country and Phelps smoking a bong is not one of them. I for one will boycott Kellogg. General Mills has plenty of cereals that I like. Watch the name brand when buying your cereals.
Fvck Wheaties , I don't like them anyway.....!

Want a role model for your kids? Try being one yourself. It's not Phelps' job. His job is to swim fast. As for Kelloggs.... you should be more concerned about the sugared crap they push on your kids than a swimmer smoking pot. Just my opinion.

Why doesn't it surprise me the states that said no to fire him, they are the slime of the USA. You would think their would be more people with morals, but in the day and age of obama what can we expect, no morals and cheat all you want on your taxes and your on the obama team,.

So we've got a young man who has made a personal decision to smoke some pot (a harmless drug relative to the prescription medications and alcohol that is advertised in front of your kids everyday), and he gets fired for being a poor role model. We had a president (Bush) who had been in videos belligerently drunk acting like the idiot he is, and he gets re-elected. I say the real problem here is the general public's dependency on the pushed cultural opinions of the media, and lack of individual reflection, thought, and cross sourced research. Research Noam Chomsky's manufacture of consent and then research where marijuana laws originated if you want a clue as to what direction the truth is in. As for you parents, maybe it is your responsibility to explain to your kids about marijuana and alcohol (and not just say it is bad, but explain why we have it and why you shouldn't use it everyday), because they will run into it at some point in their life, and if you don't give them a logical opinion, they will find their own and lose respect for you. Please stop painting this as a huge moral dilemma when there is the issue of kellogg deliberately targeting your children to sell sugar packed cereal that will later give them diabetes. How many sports athletes and celebrities beat their wives, and drive drunk to get less heat than this poor kid who is doing virtually nothing wrong besides taking a weekend bong hit. I understand Kellogg's decision to protect profits, but I disagree with it, and it only is drawing more attention to the non-existent issue that is distracting you all from real world problems.

For Gods Sake leave the kid alone. That boy has done more with his life than any looser sitting here on the computer. So what he acted like a kid. HE IS!!! He didnt sell his mother for dope. Hell all we seen was someone smoking. Were you there? How do you know it was pot? Only by what the media has told you is what you know. I and everyone I know has Banned Kelloggs. We are not pot smokers but look at what hes done being a pot smoker. More than any of you that condem him.

I am a grandmother and I want cannabis legalized and taxed, my grandchildren can buy pot easier than they can buy cigarettes, so yes THINK OF THE CHILDREN put it on the shelves with the cigs where they have to be 18 to buy it. Legalizing it will stop most of the war on drugs and hemp will put our country back to work.

I agree with EducatedSkeptic, lori, and Blackwater 13. Nik your comment had nothing to do with Michael Pelphs. This think is just blown out of proportion. Do we even know the morals and opinions of Kellogs and its representatives? Probably not; this whole pull Mike of the cereal was just business as usual. So what, he's Michael Phelps for weeds' sake. I think he could careless if one company decides not to endorse him. People are always coming down on marijuana as this evil thing, when they barely know anything about it. Reports and statistics are skewed ans abuse of anything is bad for you. leave him alone. He has accomplished more in his life that most of the world. He's determined, hard working and successful, and not just monetarily. That man is more concerned with overcoming himself that other swimmers. Lets not act as if we are in any position to judge anybody. He is human like all of us and bound to make what us people will call "mistakes." I am not gonna act like Phelps justifies me doing something that is for now illegal, it doesn't. I am smart enough to make good decisions in my life. Don't take the responsibility away from the parents. If they can be honest with their children about these things, and teach them their good values, then at least they can hope the kids can emulate some of that in their lives.
I don't care is he does marijuana or not. If the government got taxed on it, you'd better believe it would be legal. but that would be bad for the cigarette companies now would it? Even though their lucrative and addictive products have been killing our families and friends for generations.
As for weather its right or wrong to smoke weed. You decide that.

Is Kelloggs a role model for America ? How much sugar do they hide in their cereals, helping both children and adults toward obesity ? Pot,sugar, alcohol, fat, sex, drugs. Legalize all of it. Tax it. Give us the facts about it. Help society make the right decisions. Treat any problems as medical issues. And don't tread on me.

Why was he not punished when he was charged with underage drinking AND a DUI? Yet everybody busts a nut over smoking weed in a private setting? I guess you want your kids knowing its OK to Drink and Drive but you should never smoke a plant. Seriously people, get your head out of your butts and pay attention.

Considering the crap that Kellogg's sells and calls cereal, I think that Phelps is just the spokesman that they need. By the way, if he had been smoking a Marlboro, would they have been upset? Why not? Is that the kind of example you want for your kid?
