Some guys just can't get a break.A few months before Senator Roland W. Burris was appointed by former Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich to the United States senate, Mr. Burris tried, without success, to raise money from his friends for the governor at the behest of the governor's brother, Mr. Burris has acknowledged for the first time. This is especially pathetic. Not only did Burris go along with the pay-to-play scheme, he wasn't actually able to raise any money. That's like Eliot Spitzer rendezvousing with his prostitute and then having "performance problems!"
Mr. Burris, who became Illinois's junior senator a month ago over objections that the beleaguered governor should no longer make the pick, told reporters on Monday night that he had talked to Mr. Blagojevich's brother, Robert, sometime in November about his troubles raising funds, and only later told the brother that he should not raise funds because it might appear he was trying to curry favor to win the senate seat.
