So everyone seems to agree that Michael Steele has been a big flop in his first month as chairman of the Republican National Committee.
First he
insulted party dean Rush Limbaugh. Then he
prostrated himself to Limbaugh. Then he was accused of
steering illegal contracts to his sister's company. Then it was revealed that this same sister had
married Mike Tyson.
The latest news is that Steele's RNC will
redistribute $2 million of its wealth to its respective House and Senate campaign committees-- a move that many in the party believe is too little, too late.
Is there any way stop this madness? (That doesn't involve Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN)
talking jive to Steele?)
Well Steele's former RNC rival
Katon Dawson has one solution-- and it apparently involves
replacing Steele with himself...
"I have a very different management philosophy and style," said Katon Dawson, the South Carolina GOP chair who finished second to Steele. "It wouldn't have taken me four weeks to give them the money," he said, alluding to the transfers to the congressional campaign committees.
Dawson came within a ballot of knocking off Steele in the party's internal elections back in January. And perhaps he'll be on that same ballot later this year if the
drive to impeach Steele gains momentum.
For now though, it sounds like Dawson and Steele need to sit down and sort out their differences about who'd make the best RNC chairman. Perhaps they should meet for a heart-to-heart talk over drinks at Dawson's South Carolina country club.
Wait, what's that?
Oooooh, that's right.
