We won't have Roland Burris to kick around for much longer.Even if the Illinois Senator who took the word "embattled" to a new level isn't forced out of office before he stands for election in 2010, his poll numbers look pretty bad.
As in, 5% bad. And to make matters worse, that's 5% of Democrats.
Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) is drawing single digits in a primary with two other candidates, according to a new poll. Those poll numbers don't seem to be dissauding Burris, who has a really depressing campaign website up, and is resisting all calls for him to step aside.
The Zogby poll, conducted for the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, suggests the question of whether or not Burris seeks a full term in the Senate in 2010 is largely inconsequential, because he stands almost no chance of winning it.
The poll matched him with two statewide officeholders – Treasurer Alex Giannoulias and Comptroller Dan Hynes. Giannoulias led Hynes narrowly, 28-27, with Burris at just 5 percent.
Anyway, those bad poll numbers are only among Democrats, who are just going along with what their party leaders tell them to do. Burris should do much better amongst Independents.
Oh wait, he's at 0.6% with them.
