    Gregg vs. Geithner

    Posted:
    03/13/09

The embedded clip is the Senate Budget Committee hearing with Tim Geithner yesterday (via CSpan). All 2 hours or so. The relevant portion is 33:00 to 44:00 or so, the exchange between Senator Gregg and Treasury Secretary Geithner.

About a month ago, it was expected that Gregg would be carrying water for an Obama administration, in the cabinet, as Commerce Secretary. Gregg later withdrew as a candidate citing differences over the stimulus as one cause.

As the above video reveals, Gregg would have had a swollen tongue most of the time. Or perhaps he is just taking up the role assigned to him as a member of the opposition in the Senate. But these are both very smart capable men and we need more like Gregg and less like Bunning. Between Gregg and Geithner, judge for yourself who got the better in the above exchange.

Will Gregg still retire in 2010? All his public statements are indicating that he is out. But since the nomination and withdrawal he's been on fire. If Michael Steele wants to change the GOP's fortunes (and his own) he could convince Gregg to stay on another term.
