Katie Couric, the anchorwoman of the CBS Evening News, has won a prestigious journalism award for making Sarah Palin look like an idiot on national TV.Couric's September 2008 interview with the Republican vice presidential candidate revealed that, among other things, Palin doesn't read magazines or books, wanted to invade Russia, and believed that Joe Biden was "a type of elk."
Now, Couric's tough questions for Palin have netted her one of the biggest prizes in journalism ...
CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric has won a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism from USC's Annenberg School. Couric won a Special Achievement for National Impact on the 2008 Campaign award for her interviews with Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin. Judges called the interviews a "defining moment in the 2008 presidential campaign."
"We congratulate Katie Couric for this recognition by the prestigious Annenberg School for Communication," said CBS News and Sports president Sean McManus. "Katie's journalistic achievements are unique, unmistakably her own, and in keeping with the highest tradition of Walter Cronkite and CBS News excellence."
The judges are right. Couric's performace was reminiscent of Walter Cronkite - especially his 1954 interview with Dwight Eisenhower, revealing that among other things, the president enjoyed watching TV and had not bathed since the Battle of Normandy.
