Attorney General: Everybody Must Get Stoned...According to State Law

While it isn't quite enough to bring Cheech and/or Chong in from the cold, Attorney General Eric Holder did reveal a significant shift in marijuana policy yesterday that could spark up a controversy:
Attorney General Eric Holder signaled a change on medical marijuana policy Wednesday, saying federal agents will target marijuana distributors only when they violate both federal and state law.

That would be a departure from the policy of the Bush administration, which targeted medical marijuana dispensaries in California even if they complied with that state's law.
While Holder may be running afoul of the Stephen Baldwins of the world, the rest of us see this as a small, welcome step in the right direction. As Ron Paul noted in his debate with Baldwin, the US wastes money and lives enforcing criminal penalties on non-violent offenders.

The report did not indicate whether federal agents would duly recognize prescriptions written by "Dr. Dre."

While I'm no Jim Cramer, this could be a good time to buy Doritos futures, and perhaps invest in a minor league hackysack franchise.
