Michele Bachmann Calls For Violent Revolution

The trainwreck that is Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) continues.

Bachmann first grabbed headlines last October by describing Barack Obama as "Anti-American." Then, she embarked on a rampage of gaffes, ranging from lying about her stance on earmarks to shouting "You be da man!" at Michael Steele.

Now, she's in the news today for - we can't believe we're writing this - calling for a violent uprising against Obama's "cap-and-trade" policy and then denying human-caused climate change.

According to the Smart Politics blog at the University of Minnesota's Center for the Study of Politics and Governance, Ms. Bachmann, when asked about President Obama's cap-and-trade plans on a local radio station last Saturday, responded:

"I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, "Having a revolution every now and then is a good thing," and the people – we the people – are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States."

Ms. Bachmann also expressed some skepticism on global warming, saying, "The science is on our side on this one, and the science indicates that human activity is not the cause of all this global warming. And that in fact, nature is the cause, with solar flares, etc."

What?!? Cap-and-trade is worth taking up arms and, presumably, killing government officials? And climate change is caused by solar flares?

We're entering Jim Bunning territory here, people.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
