It must be Christmas in New York's 20th District, because it's getting a brand new Congressman today!

Voters are going to the polls today in the upstate district, which includes such bustling metropolises as Saratoga Springs and Bovina. They're picking a replacement for former Rep. Kristin Gillibrand, who was recently appointed to the U.S. Senate by Governor David Paterson.

Here are the contenders for the seat:

- On the right, we have Republican State Assemblyman James Tedisco. He is a 26-year veteran of the Assembly, and currently serves as Minority Leader, which mostly means making sure that Speaker Sheldon Silver publicly says the word "bipartisan" at least once every six weeks. Tedisco is also a pro bono spokesman for the Pomade corporation.

- On the left, we have Democrat Scott Murphy, a political novice. Murphy is a 39-year-old venture capitalist and boasts of creating 1,000 jobs in companies under his management. He is a graduate of Harvard and has a son named Lux, both of which put him at odds with the voters of the 20th district, who prefer their politicians to attend tractor college and name their sons Hank, Jr.

The latest polls show Murphy with a slight lead, but the only poll that matters is on election day. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the results, because you know what they say ...

As Bovina goes, so goes the nation.
