The announcement today that Sarah Palin will raise money for Senator Lisa Murkowski's campaign seems to end speculation that Palin might run for the US Senate in 2012. From ADN:
JUNEAU -- Gov. Sarah Palin plans to raise money for the re-election campaign of Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and hopes to end speculation she might challenge Murkowski in the primary for the U.S. Senate next year.

"The governor has no intention of running for the senator's seat in 2010," Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said Tuesday. "(Palin) thinks the senator is doing a great job and that's why she's looking forward to hosting a fundraiser for her."
Palin's decision not to run for the seat might hae something to do with Murkowski's double-digit lead over Palin in a recent approval poll.

This puts Palin in a bit of a quandary for 2012.If her approval in Alaska continues to decline, even as her popularity with conservatives nationwide remains strong, she may find herself in a position where she'd be better off not running for re-election in 2010. A defeat for the governorship would be devastating to her Presidential aspirations.

She hasn't announced plans to run for re-election yet, but if she doesn't, what will she do for those 2 years? Well, if the 2008 campaign is any indication, she could take a few weeks off, and then have at it.

Our New Approach to Comments

In an effort to encourage the same level of civil dialogue among Politics Daily’s readers that we expect of our writers – a “civilogue,” to use the term coined by PD’s Jeffrey Weiss – we are requiring commenters to use their AOL or AIM screen names to submit a comment, and we are reading all comments before publishing them. Personal attacks (on writers, other readers, Nancy Pelosi, George W. Bush, or anyone at all) and comments that are not productive additions to the conversation will not be published, period, to make room for a discussion among those with ideas to kick around. Please read our Help and Feedback section for more info.
