U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN), known around Political Machine as "The Gift That Keeps on Giving," has done it again. This time, Bachmann raised the specter of "Flying Imams," more specifically the six imams who were racially profiled and removed from a 2006 US Airways flight in Minneapolis for no good reason.
She accused the imams of being in town to party with her colleague, Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim-American elected to Congress. Needless to say, she was way off.
On the [radio] show, she recounted the 2006 controversy of the so-called "flying imams," six Muslim clerics who were removed from a US Airways flight after passengers grew uncomfortable with their behavior. "The imams, the imams were actually attending, ah, Congressman Keith Ellison's victory celebration, when he won as a member of Congress," Bachmann said.
Actually, they were in Minneapolis attending the fourth annual conference of the North American Imams Federation, as the Minnesota Independent, the New York Times and others reported at the time.
We can only imagine that Congressman Ellison is flattered that Bachmann thinks he is so popular.
