At a speech last night in Evansville, Indiana, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin tore into Barack Obama on the issue o
f abortion, saying it isn't "above my pay grade," but also made a rather stunning admission:(From Melinda Henneberger, AOL News)
It remains to be seen how this will affect her political fortunes in the long run. It's one thing to hear her remarks in person, as an attendee of a Palin event. Will pro-life conservatives be so understanding at a distance?
Something about these confessions doesn't seem quite right to me.
From Palin's perspective, abortion is murder, yet she says that she thought about killing her baby, even saying she wasn't sure she'd be able to love him. I don't buy any of it. I think either she was concern-trolling, trying to put a compassionate face on an uncompassionate stance, or her convictions run much shallower than her remarks against Barack Obama would indicate.
She can't have it both ways.
f abortion, saying it isn't "above my pay grade," but also made a rather stunning admission:(From Melinda Henneberger, AOL News)(S)he went into some detail about initially panicking after learning, 13 weeks into her pregnancy, that her son would be born with Down syndrome: "That blew me away, it rocked my world... It was a time I asked myself, was I going to walk the walk?"Reaction to Palin's revelation by people at the pro-life event was supportive, with the general idea being that it humanized her.
She was on a trip out of state at the time, she said, and "just for a fleeting moment I thought, 'No one knows me here; no one would ever know.' ...My amniocentesis came back and then I understood why some people would think they could change their circumstances, just take care of it. Todd didn't even know" the results of the prenatal testing yet, so "no one would know."
