Gavin Newsome Announces Candidacy for California Governor on Twitter

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome took to the internets today to announce he is running to be the next governor in the state of California. Initially, word of his candidacy went out on Twitter (where Newsome has some 275,000 "followers"), then was posted at Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace. Here's the video clip he disseminated via the new technology:
As demonstrated by Barack Obama, if you want to play politics these days, you'd best get hip to the power of social networks. Just ask Newt Gingrich, John McCain and all the other crusty old guys who are tweeting away on a regular basis. Politics has always been about building networks, and there are few tools better at doing that than the ones Newsome seems intent on mastering.
